What does the Indian Heritage Centre cover?

The Indian Heritage Centre explores the history of Indian and South Asian communities in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The National Heritage Board institution opened in May 2015 and occupies a four-storey building with permanent galleries, a special exhibition gallery, educational and activity spaces, and other facilities.
To place the museum in its neighbourhood, you can pair your visit with a walking route through Little India.
Its architecture takes inspiration from the baoli, a stepped community well. At night, the facade is designed to evoke a Little India mural. The centre’s entrance is on Campbell Lane.
Tekka Centre is also close by; its food and market setting is covered in this guide to Tekka Centre.
What are the Indian Heritage Centre opening hours and ticket rules?

The centre is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm, with last admission at 5.30pm. It closes every Monday, including public holidays that fall on a Monday, unless otherwise stated. Hours and admission arrangements can change, so check the official site before you go.
Admission is free for Singaporeans and permanent residents, but you still need an admission ticket to enter. Access to some galleries or exhibitions may be free or chargeable. For visitors who are not Singapore citizens or permanent residents, confirm the current price with the centre before planning your visit.
The centre offers free guided tours of its permanent galleries. The published tour duration is about 60 minutes, and groups are limited to 20 visitors.
Recurring English tours run at 11am Tuesday through Thursday, and at 11am and 2pm Friday through Sunday. Tamil tours are published for 11am on the first Saturday of each month; Mandarin tours are at 11am on the second Saturday of each month.
How do you get to the Indian Heritage Centre from Little India?

Little India MRT Station is the direct transit choice: alight there and use Exit E. The centre is on Campbell Lane, and the nearest drop-off point is on Clive Street.
Two bus stops serve the surrounding area. Stop 07031 is on Serangoon Road in front of Tekka Centre; buses 23, 64, 65, 66, 67, 131, 139, 147 and 857 stop there. Stop 07539 is on Sungei Road after Serangoon Road; buses 48, 56, 57, 131, 166, 170, 640, 960 and 980 serve it.
If you are driving, parking is available on Upper Dickson Road, in the basement of Tekka Centre and in surrounding street lots. The building entrance remains on Campbell Lane, rather than at the Clive Street drop-off point.
How much time should you plan for a visit?

Allow about 60 minutes if you plan to join a guided tour of the permanent galleries. You can build in more time to visit the galleries independently or use the centre’s educational and activity spaces; the visit length beyond the tour is a matter of how you choose to explore.
Access facilities include wheelchair ramps at the Campbell Lane entrance and at the side beside Clive Street. A wheelchair- and stroller-friendly elevator at Level 1 serves all galleries. Wheelchairs are available free at the Level 1 Visitor Services counter on a first-come, first-served basis, though staff cannot assist visitors around the galleries.
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms with baby-changing stations are on Levels 2, 3 and 4. Strollers can be parked in the lobby; ask the Level 1 Visitor Services counter for the designated area. Photography is permitted for private, non-commercial purposes, but flash photography and tripods are not allowed. Food and drink are not allowed inside the galleries.
